Author Interview with Skylar Nightingale on Still Sky

Skylar Nightingale, is a romance author of two books, Forbidden Acts and Mine Forever. She took the time to discuss her serial, Still Sky, on Kindle Vella with me. After reading the first couple chapters, I got the spicy romance-a-comin’ goosebumps as the seeds for a love triangle were forming in my mind. Our protagonist is a confident, yet down-to-earth teacher who I found to be relatable, especially with her love for lattes.

Tell me a little bit about your Kindle Vella?

My Kindle Vella is called Still Sky. It’s a steamy love triangle with an unexpected twist.

What would you say inspired this story?

When I initially wrote this story, I wanted to create a Hallmarkish type of story, but that continued to change as I kept writing. In fact, it was the opposite of Hallmark. It’s one of the steamiest stories I’ve ever written.

Who’s your favorite character(s) in Still Sky so far? I know it’s hard!

My favorite characters are Cade and Mateo. I love Cade because he is determined to get what he wants. I also love Mateo for his big heart.

What’s your writing process like?

I try to write at least twice a week. I reserve those days strictly for writing. When I do this, I find that I’m more focused and rarely procrastinate during that time.

What would you say is the hardest challenge you face as a writer and what steps do you take to overcome them?

The hardest challenge I face as a writer is editing and marketing. With editing, I found it’s important to be persistent. Once I stop editing for a while, it’s difficult at times to get back into it.

The steps that I take with marketing are reaching out to bloggers like you and posting on Instagram, Facebook, and sharing the latest updates with my newsletter subscribers, which have been extremely helpful.

What made you want to put Still Sky on Kindle Vella instead of an E-book?

I was having a hard time completing the editing process. My editor had already reviewed it and given her critique, but it was taking me a long time to finish doing my part. So, when Kindle Vella came along, it motivated me to complete it because I no longer had to do it all at once. It wasn’t as daunting. Now, I can edit a chapter a week and upload it to Vella

What’s coming up next for your writing, Vella or otherwise?

I plan to keep writing romance. Depending on the result I get with this Vella story, I may continue using this platform. I have a romance that I wrote some time ago that I want to rewrite, so that will probably be in the works after completing Still Sky. Stay tuned.
